Municipal
Council,Udupi came into existence in 1935 and was converted into City
Municipal Council in the year 1995.Udupi city
is district headquarter for the
district of same name.Udupi is new district formed
separated from Dakshina Kannada district in 1997.Udupi consist
of 1,13,039 population according to the 2001 census has 68.23
Sq.K.M. area
for it's municipal limit. The well-established main office of Municipality is
situated in K.M.Marg at the heart of the city.

Udupi is one of 57 Karnataka cities deploying
in 2005-06 the Municipal eGovernance modules of Property Tax,
Financial Accounting GIS
Mapping, Public Grievance & Redressal, Birth & Death Certification, and Ward
Works. Nirmala Nagara project is a
partnership between the
Urban Development Dept,
eGovernments Foundation
& Survey of India. These computer based systems
coupled with Govt. process re-engineering and GIS digital mapping
will provide transparency and accountability and smoother delivery

City
Budget: The annual budget of the Council for the year 2006-07 is
Rs.1330.275 lakhs. Out of which 160.16 lakhs is proposed
for capital expenses, Rs. 60 lakhs towards Repairs and
Maintenance, Rs. 80 lakhs towards New works and Rs. 18 lakhs
towards the welfare of SC/ST.Click

Udupi
is Famous for the Udupi Krishna Temple, is also the Birth Place of
Krishna devotee and Dwaitha Philosopher Sri Madhwacharya.
Udupi is also world famous for its world class cuisine.Udupi’s

ruins of an old fort dating back to
Vijayanagara days, are
found here. Temples of Kechamma,veerabhadra
Mahalingeshwara and Ganapathi are famous here .

sheltered harbour makes a quiet beachretr eat,just six kilometers
away from Udupi. Right across is St.Mary's Isles, more serene and
